While the Mockingbird stroller is an incredibly versatile, it does lack some functions we find handy in a stroller, and its size and budget are on the higher end.

Mockingbird Stroller Review: Nothing to Mock

The Mockingbird single-to-double stroller takes a modular approach to creating a stroller that works for you. The base package is no frills: when you order the stroller is comes with one seat, a canopy and a generous under-carriage storage basket.

From that base, however, you can build the stroller of your dreams, using Mockingbird’s simple snap-on accessory system. The biggest draw is the second seat set. That transforms the Mockingbird from a single to a double stroller, perfect for moms who are expecting twins or those who have kids close together. With a 50-pound weight limit for the seats, the Mockingbird will fit older children well into preschool.

You might be afraid that all that utility means you’ll compromise on creature comforts, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Let’s consider the seats: each is rated for children up to 50 pounds. Your children can face you, look outward, or any combination of those. You can even have the kids face each other, although we can’t guarantee they won’t fight.

While the single-to-double transformation is the main draw of the Mockingbird, there are also lots of other accessories to love. Luxurious ride

I had a chance to try out the Mockingbird stroller for myself and let me tell you what: this stroller is as luxurious as it gets. Every last detail—from the actual safety harness straps to the footrest to the materials—are crafted for quality and comfort. I felt like I was strapping Prince George himself into this stroller when I put my daughter in it.

The stroller also rides incredibly smooth; I tested up and down our gravel driveway and it rolled like a dream.

One-hand fold

The one-hand standing fold was also incredibly impressive. I know a lot of strollers advertise this, but this stroller practically folds itself in half.

Generous space and weight limit

Despite its sleek design, the Mockingbird is a packhorse when it comes to transporting kids. The seats have an upper weight limit of 50 pounds. That’s right on track with the weight of an average kindergartener, so you can expect to get many years out of the Mockingbird.

But it doesn’t just have space for kids: with a 25-pound rating the storage basket can hold even the most laden-down diaper bag. In short, this is one stroller where you won’t run out of room.

Options for infants

It can be tough to find a stroller that’s good for the early days, but also has the staying-power to see you through preschool. The Mockingbird spans that range with the help of accessories. The car seat adaptor works with best infant seat brands, including Britax, Chicco, Evenflo, Graco and more.

If you won’t be using portable car seats, the infant insert makes the Mockingbird seat safe for even the youngest babies. Although the Mockingbird seats recline, parents who want their infant to lie flat can choose the carriage accessory. Just be aware that you’ll only be able to use one carriage accessory at a time on the stroller, so the infant insert or car seat adaptor is a better bet for twins.

Before You Buy

One downside to the Mockingbird system is that it requires you to plan ahead. Mockingbird sells a single stroller, but that isn’t compatible with the second seat kit. To get the most out of a Mockingbird product, purchase the single-to-double stroller from the beginning.

Additionally, and while this is a very small thing, I did find that the fold mechanism—located in the middle of the handle—was a bit uncomfortable when pushing the stroller. It’s in the same position as most other strollers (right in the middle of the handle), but for some reason, it was just a bit bulkier and more uncomfortable than some other strollers I have tried.

And lastly, this is a big stroller. It’s meant to accommodate a lot of kids and stuff, so that’s a good thing, but you’ll also want to be sure it will fit in your vehicle if you’ll be transporting it a lot.

Final Verdict

These days, many parents are looking for baby items that have multiple functions and last a long time. The Mockingbird single-to-double stroller fits the bill. The stroller is comparably priced to other double strollers, but offers parents the flexibility to push one kid or two.
